Robert D. Welk Jr. Memorial Photo Contest – 2026

The Nutmeg Division of the Northeastern Region of the National Model Railroad Association is excited to announce our newest contest, the Robert D. Welk Jr. Memorial Photo Contest.

The first winner will be selected at the December 12th, 2026 Nutmeg Division General membership meeting, held in the Community Room at the Wethersfield, CT Police Department, as part of our Holiday Party.

Robert, who passed away June 1st of 2025, was always present at Nutmeg Division meetings, and other area train-related events. Wearing his trademark cap and yellow safety vest, and armed with his camera, Robert was always ready for a great photo opportunity. His quiet, friendly nature has been and will continue to be sadly missed.

Entry Requirements:

  • A framed print of your photo must be physically in the room at our December meeting to be eligible.
  • Print size is no smaller than 5”x7” and no larger than 8”x10”.
  • A digital copy of your photo must be sent to Nutmeg Division Social Media Lead Mike Wheeler (VML.nmranutmeg@gmail.com), for inclusion in a slide show to be played during the holiday party.
  • Each photo must be accompanied by a 3”x5” index card with the location, date, and railroad name of your photo.
  • Photo subjects can be model or prototype.
  • Each attendee is limited to 3 photo entries max.

The Contest:

  • The winner will be chosen by popular vote, with each attendee getting one vote. Ties decided by BOD. Multiple rounds of voting will be conducted if necessary.
